Barcelona

A beautiful city

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capital of Catalonia. It is not only a fast growing economic centre, but also one of the most important Mediterranean ports in Europe and the 4th most visited city in the continent. Barcelona was first a Roman city, but the Counts of Barcelona made it their capital. Having a vast cultural heritage, seven beaches and a modern part of the city, Barcelona is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain.

What is worth visiting?

This privileged city - a Mediterranean one, enjoys a Mediterranean climate which makes possible the long use of its seven beaches. The parks are a wonderful attraction; there are 68 of them, 12 being historic parks while 5 of them are thematic ones. Perhaps one of the most popular is Park Guell, designed by Antonio Gaudi. It is not the only thing he designed in Barcelona. He also designed La Sagrada Familia, the Roman Catholic Church still under construction, visited by thousands of tourists every day. It is an imposing building which has become a symbol of Barcelona.La Ciutat Vella (The Old City) is the place where the gothic buildings and the sites with a medieval flagrance remind us of the flourishing era of Barcelona, the era when the city was born. For the sports lovers, Camp Nou Stadium should not be missed.

It hosts the FC Barcelona football club, a football club that has fans all around the world. The Museums in Barcelona cover vast periods and eras of the country in general and the city in particular: the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art shows both Catalan and Spanish art objects; the Archeology Museum of Catalonia, the Maritime Museum and the Egyptian Museum also hold collections worth visiting for their importance in the history of the country. Barcelona is a marvel of art, style, culture and architecture; a city which offers a surreal image for the one who takes the first steps on its streets.

Where to sleep?

Accommodation should not be a problem in Barcelona. Besides the exquisite hotels, tourists also have villas at their disposal. The villas in Sitges or the ones in Canet de Mar have modern designs and offer very good conditions at lower prices than the ones in hotels. They are perfect for a low budget vacation; the villas are also preferred by some tourists because they give them the privacy that they would not have had if they chose a hotel. So if you are in search of a special holiday destination, choose Barcelona! You will not regret it.
